Works in Progress - 11.21

Here's a little sneak peek at a quilt I'm working on.  It will be for one of my twin baby girls.  Several months ago I finished a Zig Zag Quilt in the same color scheme.  When I found out I was having twins I decided I wanted to make a complimentary quilt to go along with the Zig Zag.  You know, complimentary, but not the same.  It's all about making sure the twins have their own identity, right?

Now to find a flannel backing and put this puppy together!

This Weeks Works

It's been almost a week since I've posted anything!  It's not because I haven't been busy working on projects.  I actually finished a quilt last week, but the weather hasn't cooperated for decent pictures so I haven't managed a post regarding it.  Here's a sneak peak though...

I'm quite excited about this one.  It's cheerful and makes me happy.  Hopefully by mid-week I'll be able to get some decent pictures and share the full project with you.

I've also been doing some knitting the past few days.  These will be some fingerless gloves for another niece.  I'm using yet another free pattern I found on www.ravelry.com.  What a wonderful site!

And last but not least, I've been playing with fabric, trying to decide what to use for my next quilt.  This one has been a bit trickier.  You see the recipients have decided to be surprised by the gender of the child. In a way, I'm a little jealous of them.  I don't know that I can ever be flexible enough to NOT find out.  I like to plan, people!  This whole not finding out business does make it trickier to decide what materials to use in their quilt.  I think I'm about ready to start it though.

It's going to include shades of blue, red, green, orange, and yellow and I'll use the Zig Zag quilt pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew.  I'm super excited to try this one out.

Oh, and over the past few weeks, I've tried machine quilting my Log Cabin quilt again.  Still ain't happening.  This puppy is about to be taken to someone with long arm quilting capabilities.  I hate admitting defeat...

Hopefully this week I'll be able to show you some finished products!  How about you?  Have you had lots of time to work on lovely projects lately?

Emma Quilt Top

**Update: This quilt has now been finished!  Check it out at this post.**

Here's a quilt top for a baby quilt I've been working on.  I gave a sneak peak of the beginning of this quilt in this post.  It's another pattern from the adorable book 3 Times the Charm!  (I promise I'm not biased because of it's name.) This quilt is for a little boy so I didn't want anything to feminine and I thought this pattern fit the bill.

Some of the prints are from the Farm Yard Friends line that I ADORE!  I found some at at Craft Town Fabrics and ordered some of the prints my local shop didn't have.  I figure it's always good to have boy friendly prints on hand, right?  I wish I could find more of the green nursery rhyme print, and the grey "Crawl, Slow, Slide" print, but so far I haven't had any luck.

This top has been done for a few weeks, but I didn't have any batting to finish it.  But thanks to my hubby I was able to have a day this weekend to run errands without our little one.  It's amazing how much more I can accomplish and in less time when I'm not carting her around!

I was able to get it basted today, and even started to quilt it.  I was probably about 1/6th of the way done with the quilting when I realized something was wrong with my tension - ARGH!  Over half of what I did needs to be unpicked.  I didn't have the heart to do it right then, and my little one needed some attention so it's left to be fixed and finished another day!

Log Cabin Quilt Top

It's done!  Well, at least the quilt top is done.  But I was so excited I made it this far I had to share.  In an earlier post I showed you the beginnings of my Log Cabin Quilt top.  It was going to be throw size, then I decided I mind as well make it big enough for a twin.  I'm very happy with how it's turned out so far!

The borders made me nervous.  I knew doing borders incorrectly could end in a skewompous quilt.  And I didn't want that, did I?  So I consulted friends on Facebooks.  I consulted friends through email.  And I went into my local quilt shop and one of the sweet ladies there drew me a diagram and taught me how she did it.  :)  I wanted to have two borders on top and bottom (like on the sides), but it was getting too big and I would have had to trimmed most of the top border off anyway.

Now I need to put this project aside while I work on some gifts.  I'll have to finish the back and quilt it later.
